Support Breast Cancer Awareness in October with Copic Oz

Did you know that one in eight women in Australia will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime?  I'm sure you know that early detection saves lives and that the earlier a cancer is discovered, the greater the chances of successful treatment.  To help raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Copic Marker Australia have decided to donate to the McGrath Foundation to help raise awareness and money, to support the fight against breast cancer.  YOU will all help to decide how much is donated by participating in the #COPIC4ACAUSE project.

While I may not be eligible to win a prize, I have decided to create a project in my Copic Art Journal aka Copic Blending Journal for #COPIC4ACAUSE.

I have created a special pink doodled heart, using as many pink Copic markers as I could.  The outline for the project was done in Black Copic Multi Liners:  0.5, 0.3 and 1.0

The doodled image was coloured with RV02 and RV04

RV00, RV04 and RV09

RV55, RV66 and RV69

RV23 and RV25

Now because this is a piece of doodle art - it's not supposed to be fussy, or planned or time consuming, so the only blending I've done is on the very large swirls.  To colour these I've added RV09 to the ends.

Then RV69 to the base

I've added a little RV66 between the RV09 and RV69 - making sure to flick where the colours meet.

I've continued to use the flick blending method with these 3 colours until I had an image that was nice and smooth.

Add some RV09 and RV000

Fill in any white areas in the design with RV10

Accent with N1, N3 and N5 for a little shading.

and you are finished.

Do you think it's pink enough?

I can't wait to see what projects you all create to support this amazing cause, don't forget to upload your creations to Instagram with the hashtag #COPIC4ACAUSE and tag @COPICMARKERAU.  I really hope you all get behind this amazing initiative, because every dollar counts in the fight against breast cancer.

Back with more soon,
Kate

Copic Technique Journal #5 - Textures!

Hello Everyone and welcome to the last tutorial in our series on creating your very own Copic Technique Journal.  Today I'm talking about TEXTURE!  You can achieve texture in different ways, by either dotting or scribbling on colour or by adding your colourless blender as a pen or using the blender solution.  All of these ways create fun and interesting effects to your creative projects!!

Once again, the team at X-Press Graph-X have created another FREE template for you to use and insert into your Copic Journal in both Landscape and Portrait orientation!  Why not download the template and have a go at creating your very own journal and then link to the inlinkz below for a chance to win your very own X-press It Copic Journal!

Here is the PORTRAIT Template
Here is the LANDSCAPE Template

And before we get onto this tutorial, the winner from Kate's Colourless Blender Tutorial was Alshandra, congrats A.... please email Sascha to claim your free journal.

I've used the Texture Template in the landscape orientation and used it to create a variety of effects.  Create Pebbles by laying down a base of C3, dot on YR24 and YG95 and then dot on some Colourless Blender.  The next one is Scales, lay down a base of YG93 and dot on YG95, YG97 and Colourless Blender.  To create a woodgrain effect, I've laid down a base of E31 and used the tips of E33, E35 and E37 to create a stripey, wood like effect.  You can also create a fuzzy effect by dotting and scribbling on colour.  I've laid down a base of E11 and then dotted and scribbled on E13 and E15.

For a different look, you can use your blender solution and a variety of different materials to create texture.  For the first one, I've coloured the circle, dampened a piece of Aida Cloth with Colourless Blender and pressed it to the circle. For the other circles, I've used Denim, a Washcloth and a piece of Hessian (also known as Burlap in some parts of the world).

You can then stamp directly into your X-press It Copic Journal (since all the pages are the X-press It Blending Card which is perfect for colouring), and colour examples of your techniques!  Above I've created Pebbles under the bucket, a Fluffy Chicken (the dotted on fur technique) and a Wooden Fence.

On another page, I've given a little girl a textured dress (Aida Cloth), a Chic Girl some textured Denim jeans and some Fuzzy Bunnies using the Blender Solution and Washcloth technique.  As you can see, there is a wonderful world of textures to explore!

You can read more about textures in these tutorials...
Adding Texture Using The Colourless Blender Refill and Fabric
Bubbles and Pebbles
Adding Texture With Colourless Blender

Hope you've enjoyed and been inspired to create some texture of your own!  Why not download the FREE template, show us your page and use the inlinkz below to have the chance to win your own X-Press It Journal!

Happy Colouring... and we will see you all in two weeks time to announce our winner, and start the next phase of our Copic journey!

Copic Technique Journal--Hair Combinations

Welcome to the Third Copic Technique Journal Tutorial here on the Copic Oz Blog, I hope these features have got you thinking about building your own Technique Journal.  Along the way we have provided you with ideas for colour combinations, and skin combinations; and a series of FREE Templates for you to either place in your X-Press It Blending Journal (filled with X-Press It Blending Card) or for you to build your own journal.

With each technique we are also encouraging you to “have a go” and let us know how you have made your Technique Journal come to life.  We provide an InLinkz facility at the end of each blog post, and choose a winner from each technique to receive a FREE X-Press It Blending Journal.  The winner from the Skin Combinations tutorial is Alshandra, congratulations… please email Sascha with your postal address to claim you prize.

This time we are focussing on hair and adding our favourite combinations to our Technique Journal.  I have samples of dark hair, and you will be able to see Kathy’s Light Hair and Kate’s Fantasy Hair samples in the InLinkz Tool below… once again we are providing you with FREE Copic Blending Templates.  Simply print these onto X-Press It Blending Card, and get started:

Hair Combinations Copic Blending Template—Portrait
Hair Combinations Copic Blending Template—Landscape

These print on a whole A4 Sheet of X-Press It Blending Card, simply cut in half and they fit nicely into your Journal.

Hair is always a huge challenge for me, particularly trying to modernise hair on the images I colour.  I have always had hair that is just one colour, as in a solid colour, but today so many people have mixed hair colours, this is what I worked on in my sample page today.

I have also built my hair samples so that I can reference the order in which my colours are applied, as I regularly forget the order in which you apply the colours, changes the outcome.  I always do a bit of extra blending (and streaking) at the end, but these examples will head me in the right direction when I need it.

Line 1—Standard Brown Tones

Line 2—Brown Tones with a Dark Blonde Under-Glow

Line 3—Brown Tones with Red Highlights

I like to keep “Stamped Examples” close to each of my Technique/Colour Combination Pages, given I chose to use three of the little ladies on the template to show the series of colour application, I opted to stamp my images on separate pieces of Blending Card, and tab them ready for inserting behind the journal page.  This is easily achieved by securing the Hair Combinations Template to the Journal using X-Press It Double Sided Tape, in channels, as shown below.

This creates a perfect cavity to hold the sample, which slides in and out with ease.  A little trick if you plan on storing more than one sample in each slot is to double up the layers of Double Sided Tape, the more layers of tape you use, the more examples you can fit in…. or use foam tape if you intend on storing a thick stash… I plan to put the colour combo that will follow (back onto) this one, on the next page, straight onto the back of this tabbed beauty, keeping the amount of loose items to a minimum.

I used three different Marci Girls stamps from La La Land, one for each of my colour combinations:

Sugar n Spice Marci for Standard Brown Tones

Winter Marci for Brown Tones with Blonde Under-Glow

Marci Ballerina for Brown Tones with Red Highlights

And for some further inspiration here are some links to some previously highlighted hair colour techniques/combinations:
Copic Hair and Skin Wheel
All About Hair Challenge
Have a Good Hair Day

So now it is over to you, similarly to last time, we are calling upon participants to show us how they sample hair colours in their Technique Journal, feel free to use the provided template, or your approach to hair colour combos!  Most importantly, link up using the InLinkz tool below, we will award a FREE Blending Journal to the most impressive entry, and announce the lucky winner in two weeks, at the start of our next Copic Tutorial, Goodluck!!

And for those of you in Brisbane and the surrounds, we are counting down the sleeps until the Scrapbook Expo on June 10, 11 and 12.  Come visit us at the X-Press Graph-X Stand and touch base with all things Copic.

In the mean time I hope you are inspired to get busy building your Copic Technique Journal!!

It's time to......THINK PINK!

Hello Everyone!!  October is the month of Breast Cancer Awareness and this year, we at Copic Oz are doing our small part to help support and find a cure for this terrible disease.  I'm sure most of us have been affected by Breast Cancer in some way, either personally or have seen a friend or family member fight it, so be a little creative and help us to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation this month by joining us in the......PINK CHALLENGE!!!!  For EVERY card entered below, $5 will go to the McGrath Foundation who do such amazing work supporting those affected by Breast Cancer, generously donated by X-Press Graph-X!

THE CHALLENGE:  Make a PINK PROJECT (card, scrapbook page, 3D off the page) using your COPICS, link it to the InLinkz below on this post and link this post on your blog (if you have one)!  You can use ANY stamps or products you like, as long as you use your Copics somewhere in the process and you can enter as many times as you like!!  :)

WHEN: The Challenge is open from October 3rd (AU EST) through to 6pm Monday October 29th (AU EST)!  The Winner will be announced on Tuesday October 30th!

WHO CAN PLAY:  EVERYONE, including International!!!

PRIZE: YES!!!  There is an awesome prize for the winner!  Not only does your entry result in $5 being donated to the McGrath Foundation, the winner will also receive a prize pack of the Flourishes Think Pink Stamp Set, an Acrylic Block and a Pack of X-press It Blending Card!

Today I've used my Copics for a few different things!  The most obvious is to colour the pink ribbon on the T-shirt - for this I've used RV00, RV52 and RV55!  (The t-shirt itself is coloured with G40, G43 and G46.)  I've also coloured the edges of the ribbon, which began as completely white but now has a pretty RV52 edge!  The last thing I did was colour the rhinestones with RV66 so that they too would be pink!  These had to be done with a darker colour since bling is a non-absorbent material.  And of course to add a little dimension for the t-shirt and the sentiment, I've used X-press It High Tack Foam Tape.  *LOVE* this stuff, over many years I've tried a variety of foam tapes and nothing sticks like this High Tack Foam Tape!!  :)
The stamps I've used today are from the Flourishes Think Pink set, a fun and funky Breast Cancer Awareness set that could be yours simply by linking your project to the InLinkz below!!!

Don't forget to visit our fundraising page for the McGrath Foundation. There are Copic Stockists around Australia holding events to raise money for this amazing charity.

I hope I've inspired you to join us this month and help us to raise funds for Breast Cancer!!  Thank You So Much and Happy Colouring!!

Let's Get Sporty!!

Hello Everyone!!  It's the last Wednesday of the month and that means it is Challenge time again!!  This month I want everyone to get Sporty!!!  You could incorporate your Father's Day cards into this challenge, but it's not essential!  Girls or boys, we all love our sport --- what's YOUR favourite sport??

For my sample, I've used Footy Luka from La La Land Crafts.  This little dude comes with a plain jersey, but since I love my boys in Red and Black, I've drawn in a sash with a .3mm multiliner to create an Essendon Bombers football uniform!  :)  Personally I think he turned out a little like Hirdy which is perfectly fine with me!!  LOL!!  However, I can see that I will be drawing in vertical stripes and colouring them black and white (Collingwood for the FIL) or yellow and brown (Hawthorn for my Dad) - don't you just love the versatility!  What team do YOU go for???  :)

Colours used for my sample...
E000, E00, E01, E11, E13, E50, E51, E53, YR31, C3, C5, C7, R22, R24, R29, R59.

What's the Challenge?: Create a project (card, layout, off the page) using your Copic Markers to create a Sporty Theme!!! Doesn't matter what image or sport you use - let's see some sporty creations!!

Is there a Prize?: YES!!  This month it's a Pack of X-Press it Blending Card and a Copic Swatch Book!!!!

Who can play?: This challenge is open to EVERYONE, including international!

Challenge #12 - Embellish This!!!

Hello Everyone!!!  A big thank you to everyone who played along with last month's Colour Challenge!!  This month I'm challenging you to EMBELLISH THIS!!!  No longer will we need to worry about embellishments to match our latest project thanks to our fabulous markers!!!  Anything is fair game, rhinestones, pearls, ribbons, charms, flowers, brads.....let your imagination run wild!!!

I've used a BG15 marker to colour the sheer ribbon, a RV25 to colour the rhinestones in the top corner and a Y23 to colour the rhinestones on Marci's hair ribbons!  I also used some fabulous new X-press It Clear Gel Glue to stick my whole card together!!  (If you loved the OLD Pritt glue formula - you'll love this glue.....trust me!!!)
TIP - remember if you are colouring onto a non-porous surface that it is best to use darker markers because the ink does not absorb into the item, but dries on top!

What's the Challenge?: Create a project (card, layout, off the page) using your Copic Markers to Colour Your Embellishments!

Is there a Prize?: YES!!  This month the prize is a bottle of the brand new X-press It Clear Gel Glue!!!

Who can play?: The challenge is open to EVERYONE, including international!!!

How do you enter?: Use the inlinkz below to connect to your blog or online gallery and upload it prior to 6pm Monday 25rd July, Australian EST (4am USA EST)!!!
